House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy got no closer to securing the majority of 218 votes he needs to become the next Speaker after the second round of voting on the House floor Tuesday. The second round, which was the first second round in 100 years, resulted in 203 votes for McCarthy, 212 for Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and 19 Republican votes that went to Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio. These results were almost the same as those of the first round, where McCarthy won 203 votes to Jeffries’ 212 votes, and 19 other votes were scattered among a few GOP alternatives. As of now the House will be going into a third vote. Which, McCarthy opponents hope later rounds of voting will eventually wear down McCarthy’s supporters. Though McCarthy supporters are remaining steady.

As of now, and until a Speaker is selected, House members cannot be sworn in and will continue to use the Representative-elect title. The Clerk of the House, who is currently presiding over the vote, will continue to head the House until a Speaker is selected.

The voting will continue until a majority is gained for one candidate. This could take days or even weeks depending on how the member-elects vote. Though this will for sure remain close as the votes continue to come in.

Good dump RINO “NO BALLS” McCarthy. If Jim Jordan nominated him I’m questioning whether he is truly a conservative.

This is w why Republicans keep losing and making fools out of themselves. Can you imagine what will happen if the speaker is a Democrat as radical as they come. There will be no Republican party in 2024

I am embarrassed to say I am a conservative Republican. We need to start over and organize the Republican Party that has goals and an objective of how to achieve those goals. This bickering and calling names is for the demorats. I expect more from the people that we elected. Stop the voting and go behind closed doors and organize a plan to serve the American people and put your pettiness behind yourselves. No wonder we lost the Senate and the Governors’ races when a mouse with a brain and balls could have won any of them. Your lack of leadership is costing this country dearly and if I don’t see dramatic improvement, I will be switching to Independent and voting for both parties ALONG WITH A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE!!!!!

When someone wants something so bad makes a person wonder why. Long before this election of the Republican house speakership we heard Jim Jordan’s name and actions were in the forefront not so much about McCarthy.

The first two votes taught him nothing, if you won’t listen and compromise with the people in your own party, you may not be right for the job! IMO

Why do they not explain the hold ups, and maybe the folks back home could weigh in on their congressmen to resolve this mess. They look like fools as it goes now.
